There was zero promotion or public speculation about Drake dropping a new tape this week or even this summer. The last time Drake dropped music was in April 2020 with the single, ‘Toosie Slide.’ This surprise from the Canadian influencer had fans ecstatic leading up to the tape.
‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’ was put together by two of Drake’s close team members. These tracks, according to Drake, have been “songs people have been asking for.” He continued to say some of the songs have leaked out that he dropped. The following songs were already released prior to this drop:
- ‘Chicago Freestyle’ Feat. Giveon (Soundcloud)
- Desires Feat. Future (Soundcloud)
- Toosie Slide – (All platforms)
- War (Soundcloud)
The album has got fourteen tracks on it with a total runtime of 50 minutes. He’s packing features too, some are Chirs Brown, Playboi Carti, Future, Young Thug, & Fivio Foreign.
The following tracks stood out to me the most after my first listen:
- When To Say When
- D4L Feat. Future & Young Thug
- From Florida With Love
- Demons Feat. Fivio Foreign & Sosa Geek
This mixtape served up Drake’s serval different melodic styles quite nicely. It has something for all of his fans to enjoy which is nice. Easily the most anticipated song on the tape was “1993” Feat. Playboi Carti. To be truthful, Drake and producer Pi’erre did great but, Carti’s verse was not doing it for me. The pitch and adlibs ruined the vibe of the track for me which has me feeling pretty bummed out.
